Why Tai Chi for Children?

Helen Swe (Hadani)’s program is designed for ages 4–12 (with adaptations for teens and special-needs children). Sessions are short (5–15 minutes), fun, and story-based — never competitive or rigid. Children learn through playful imagery (“Elephant Walks,” “Bird Spreads Wings,” “Cloud Hands”) while developing real skills in mindfulness, balance, and emotional regulation. Program Structure & Sample Movements

Helen Swe (Hadani)’s method uses simple, repetitive forms with kid-friendly names, deep diaphragmatic breathing, and gentle visualizations. No equipment needed — just comfortable clothes and a smile.

Example Age-Appropriate Movements (taught progressively):

  1. Balloon Breathing – Stand tall, inhale through the nose imagining inflating a big colorful balloon in the belly, exhale slowly as if blowing out birthday candles. (Calms the nervous system instantly.)
  2. Strong Tree / Horse Stance – Feet wide, knees soft, arms like branches swaying gently in the wind. Builds grounded strength and balance.
  3. Cloud Hands – Slow, circular arm movements as if painting clouds in the sky. Improves shoulder mobility and focus.
  4. Bird Spreads Wings / Bird’s Beak – Gentle arm extensions and balance on one leg, like a bird gliding or pecking. Enhances coordination and concentration.
  5. Pushing the Wave / Gentle Push – Soft pushing motions forward and back, teaching yielding and flow rather than force.
  6. Elephant Walks or Trunk Swings – Big, playful arm circles and steps, great for releasing tension and having fun.
  7. Closing with Gratitude – Hands over heart, deep breath, and a moment of “thank you” to the body and breath.
